The mission of Katz Counseling is to help people struggling feel empowered and understand that they can learn the skills and gain the awareness to better manage their difficulties so that they can live more meaningful and fulfilling lives.

I primarily use a mix of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness techniques in my therapy approach. I find that in learning and using skills from all three of these approaches, we can work with what is bothering us from different angles that complement each other, so that whatever we are working on has less of a hold on our lives.

There are tremendous benefits in building greater self awareness and a gentler approach in how we meet what we find with this renewed insight. Both increased self-awareness and self-compassion can lead us to face the hard things in life with more equanimity, and allow us to move towards what’s most important to us.

At Katz Counseling our mission is to help you learn the tools to build greater self-awareness, how to work with what you find, and imbue your life with more self-compassion, so that ultimately you can connect to a life that is full and rich with meaning.

My Therapy Style:

I believe we all feel empowered by learning a skill-set that can help us manage the difficulties that come up for us, and as such, I use a skill- based approach in my therapy work. Self awareness, tools, and self compassion form the cornerstones of change. You will be guided in how to develop all three of these components in our work together.

I am an advocate of authenticity and transparency, and encourage my clients to bring this to the work we do together in therapy and beyond. We make our biggest gains and transformations when we honestly and bravely face what is happening and how we are feeling from our most authentic and compassionate place. I will partner with you in this process, and gently point out observations I have while doing our work together.

Much of what we struggle with as adults can often be traced back to negative experiences we had when we were children. I am a firm believer in understanding our past and how it has shaped us, in an effort to free us from the disruptive beliefs that we may be carrying that are impeding our life. There is nothing quite as empowering as understanding where we come from and realizing that we can finally let go of what has been keeping us trapped.

Therapy is a microcosm of the relationships we have outside of the therapy room. Often the dynamics that present themselves between client and therapist are the same things that come up outside of therapy. As such, the therapeutic relationship in and of itself is an opportunity to explore difficult dynamics, understand where they come from, and how to both find healing and learn to go about it in a more adaptive way.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How long does therapy take?

Sessions are 45/50 minutes long. Initial consults are 60 minutes. Some courses of therapy are more short term, and some therapy is longer term. This is very situation/person specific and we discuss treatment plans and interventions at the beginning of our work together, as well as at several other checkpoints along the way.

  • How do you feel about medication?

Research shows that we find the greatest relief from anxiety and depression through the combination of medication and therapy. That said, I am not a medication provider, and understand everyone has their own feelings about medication. We can talk about this if it comes up in therapy and I will meet you where you are at.

  • Do you accept insurance?

We do not currently take insurance, however we can provide you with a statement (superbill) at the end of each month if you would like to send it to your insurance company for reimbursement of a portion of the session fee. Please contact your insurance company for information regarding benefits with an out-of-network provider.

  • How much does therapy cost?

$250 for an initial consult (60 minutes)

$200 for follow up sessions (45/50 minutes)
